Cherry Hill Park - Recreation Coeur d’Alene

Cherry Hill Recreation Area Coeur d'AleneCherry Hill Park has long been a favorite sledding spot of the children and families of Coeur d’Alene, but that is not it’s only great feature. Cherry Hill Park is also home to a BMX track, tennis and basketball courts, and the 9/11 Memorial playground. The 30- acre park is located behind the fire station on Hazel Ave. and 15th. Street and has plenty of trees that offer shade in the summer and a spectacular color display in the fall. The park sits up against the hillside and in the winter becomes one the most popular sledding spots in the whole city.Families come from all over Coeur d’Alene at the first sight of snow to take advantage of the great hillside angles.

In the middle of the park is the new 9/11 Memorial playground. The playground’s main attraction is a huge fireman’s helmet that houses two slides and sliding poles. There are also teeter-totters, small fire trucks and police cars to play in. The playground area is surrounded by a beautiful picket fence that also serves as a memorial. You can have a name engraved on a picket of the fence to commemorate a loved one or family. Money from the purchase of the pickets goes into a 9/11 Memorial Fund.

Cherry Hill Park also offers one of the only BMX tracks in the area. With a looped track that features several jumps, the track is a favorite with all ages. On a sunny afternoon the track is filled with racers there to practice and have a good time. If you want to ride bikes at the park but aren’t adventurous enough for the track, you can use the paved bike and walking trails that are available through the park. Four tennis courts are available for use on the other side of the park. The courts are kept is really good condition, but are not lit for night time games.

Parking is plentiful at the park, so you won’t have any trouble finding a spot in either the upper or lower lots. Entrances are located on either side of the firehouse off of 15th Street. There are bathrooms for public use, and even though they are just portable toilets, they are in a clean enclosed housing that are kept very clean by the parks department.

Cherry Hill Park offers a variety of activities for any family. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the beautiful backdrop while spending time with your family.
